On August 15, 1912, Universal officially expanded its operation to the West Coast when it leased a portion of the Providencia Ranch in the San Fernando Valley. By May 20, Nestor and Champion Films had also joined Universal, and on July 12 Carl Laemmle had officially been elected President of the new venture. This new company was an alliance between Laemmle's IMP, the New York Motion Picture Company, Rex Motion Pictures, and Powers Motion Pictures. On April 30, 1912, the Universal Film Manufacturing Company was incorporated in New York. Laemmle's first production in 1909 was Hiawatha, a one-reel adaptation of Longfellow's poem. In June 1909, he formed the New York based Independent Moving Picture Company of America (IMP), not only to produce his own films, but to defy the monopolistic Motion Picture Patents Company that charged a license fee to all independent theater operators. From exhibiting short silent films in one theater, Laemmle later moved to movie distribution and production. We went ahead and took their lead by shifting our focus to the industry side of things and began to pay closer attention to the producers responsible for the indie gems that competed in the México Primero, Works in Progress, and Cabos TV sections. Here’s our list of 10 Mexican film producers you should know.Universal's rich entertainment legacy can be traced back to 1906, when 39 year-old German immigrant Carl Laemmle (pronounced LEM-lee) opened his first nickelodeon theater in Chicago. Often times at festivals, much of the fanfare and awards go to the director, but the organizers of Los Cabos make it a point to highlight others working behind the camera. While both of the awards for Best Mexican Film (awarded separately by FIPRESCI and the festival’s jury) went to Te prometo anarquía, other contenders included Katina Medina Mora’s tender, heartbreaking love story Sabrás qué hacer conmigo and Jack Zagha Kababie’s deadpan comedy Almacenados. From Las Elegidas, an intense drama on sex trafficking, to Te prometo anarquía, a film focused on the sordid world of black market blood-selling skateboarders, the stories coming from Mexican auteurs have mostly strayed from the typical drug smuggling narratives that gringo directors are currently fixated on. The México Primero competition showcased the varied themes that contemporary Mexican cinema seeks to uncover. For the fourth year in a row, the seaside fest screened movies written, directed, and produced by creatives from Mexico, the United States, and Canada, alongside a smaller selection of films from outside of North America. Through a series of roundtable sessions called Meet Your Neighbors and an enviable yacht ride, the fest fosters networking and relationship building amongst producers and filmmakers from the three countries.Īfter spending four days in Los Cabos watching the latest crop of Latin American movies that have circulated the globe – from the Cannes Film Festival in France to the Berlinale in Germany, plus stops in Venice, Buenos Aires, and Miami – it’s safe to say that Mexico is killing the indie film game. The Los Cabos International Film Festival has created a niche for itself as the only major festival that brings together North America’s film industry titans.

Even with the tracing tools found in cutting-edge vector illustration programs like Adobe Illustrator, it’s a struggle to create realistic imagery, although they’re a lot of fun to use. The equations can be scaled up and down to any required size by simply multiplying or dividing, which your vector editing program will handle automatically for you.īut because vector images have to define each individual image element separately, they’re not well-suited to the extremely complex color variations that are required to create photorealistic images. Vector images don’t suffer from problems with scaling, since all their image data is stored as a set of equations. This can often lead to a softer image, although it can be corrected with proper sharpening during the export process. The result is just a larger but blurrier image because no new information has been added to the file.ĭecreasing the size of a raster image means that some pixel information has to be discarded, and once it’s gone, you can’t get it back without using an Undo command during the same editing session. Increasing their size requires GIMP to invent new pixel information to fill the larger dimensions, which it obviously can’t do, so it just scales up the existing data. Raster images handle color gradients exceptionally well, and they can be easily generated by digital camera sensors, which makes them perfect for creating and editing digital photographs.īut because they are grids of pixels, increasing or decreasing their size can cause unexpected results. The difference in structure between raster images and vector images means that they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Part of the reason this distinction can be unclear is that vector image formats aren’t very widely supported by web browsers or operating systems (with the exception of open standards like SVG and PDF), so vector images usually get converted into pixel formats like JPG and PNG. The exact shape of each object, the color of each shape, and the order in which the shapes overlap are all stored as equations instead of pixels. Vector images are composed of a series of mathematical equations that describe all elements in the image. In its most basic form, a raster image is a simple grid of information that describes the color and brightness of each pixel. Raster images are the most common form of digital image because they’re composed of pixels in a similar way to your output device (your monitor, in other words). If you’re new to the world of image editing, you might not have heard the terms raster image and vector image before – and there are even a few more experienced editors who could brush up on their terminology too. Vector vs Raster: What’s The Difference?.GIMP isn’t the only piece of free image editing software available, so I can point you in the direction of a couple of different options that will let you create vector images properly, with all the fun and time-saving tools that you’ll find in a dedicated vector graphics program. GIMP cannot do anything with these entities, but it can load them as paths.” – The official GIMP user manual, Section 5.7 “The SVG format handles many other graphical elements than just paths: among other things, it handles figures such as squares, rectangles, circles, ellipses, regular polygons, etc. An SVG file will probably display better in your web browser than it will in GIMP. You can open SVG files, but that’s about it. GIMP does have limited support for the web-friendly vector format SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), but when I say limited support, I really mean it. The strokes, fills, and patterns of your shapes are all rasterized as pixels immediately, and never exist as vector data. The Paths tool in GIMP does use a Bezier curve system in the same way that vector graphics programs create shapes, but these paths are only used as a means of defining specific areas for pixel editing. GIMP is a raster image editor, which means it creates and edits pixels, not vectors. Creating vector images from pixel images is useful for a lot of different design projects, but I have to tell you right from the start that GIMP is not designed for creating vector images. The 5 most common numbers in Keno are 23, 34, 72, 1, and 4. While each draw is random, there are some numbers that tend to be drawn more frequently than others. It is a great way to test your luck and win big. Keno is an exciting game of chance that has been popular for centuries. The more numbers chosen, the better the odds of winning. The odds of winning are determined by the number of numbers chosen and the number of numbers drawn. Keno has relatively good odds compared to other forms of gambling. It can also help players stay focused and make smarter decisions. Taking breaks from gambling can help players stay in control. Setting a budget and sticking to it is essential for responsible gambling. Players should never bet more than they can afford to lose. This way, they can increase their chances of matching at least some of the numbers. Players should try to spread out their bets to cover more numbers. Choosing these numbers can give players a higher chance of winning. As mentioned above, the 5 most common numbers in Keno are 23, 34, 72, 1, and 4.
Macs running Mac OS X 10.5 and later, which includes the Time Machine feature, can use the Time Capsule as a wireless backup device, allowing automatic, untethered backups of the client computer. The device includes software to allow any computer running a reasonably recent version of Mac OS or Windows to access the disk as a shared volume. In January 2008, Apple introduced Time Capsule, an AirPort Extreme (802.11 Draft-N) with an internal hard drive. The styling is similar to that of the Mac Mini and Apple TV. The Ethernet ports were later updated to Gigabit Ethernet on all ports. A USB port was included for printers and other USB devices. The number of Ethernet ports was increased to four-one nominally for WAN, three for LAN, but all can be used in bridged mode. This implementation of 802.11 Draft-N can operate in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz ISM bands, and has modes that make it compatible with 802.11b/g and 802.11a. In 2007, Apple unveiled a new AirPort Extreme (802.11 Draft-N) Base Station, which introduced 802.11 Draft-N to the Apple AirPort product line. It can be used as a portable travel router, using the same AC connectors as on Apple's AC adapters as an audio streaming device, with both line-level and optical audio outputs and as a USB printer sharing device, through its USB host port. In 2004, Apple released the AirPort Express base station as a " Swiss Army knife" multifunction product. The original AirPort card was discontinued in June 2004. AirPort and AirPort Extreme cards are not physically compatible: AirPort Extreme cards cannot be installed in older Macs, and AirPort cards cannot be installed in newer Macs. All other Macs of the time had an expansion slot for the card. Several of Apple's desktop computers and portable computers, including the MacBook Pro, MacBook, Mac Mini, and iMac shipped with an AirPort Extreme (802.11g) card as standard. AirPort Extreme allows theoretical peak data transfer rates of up to 54 Mbit/s, and is fully backward-compatible with existing 802.11b wireless network cards and base stations. In 2003, Apple introduced AirPort Extreme, based on the 802.11g specification, using Broadcom's BCM4306/BCM2050 two-chip solution. The original AirPort system allowed transfer rates up to 11 Mbit/s and was commonly used to share Internet access and files between multiple computers. Only Xserves did not have it as a standard or optional feature. The AirPort card (a repackaged Lucent ORiNOCO Gold Card PC Card adapter) was later added as an option for almost all of Apple's product line, including PowerBooks, eMacs, iMacs, and Power Macs. The initial offering consisted of an optional expansion card for Apple's new line of iBook notebooks and an AirPort Base Station. Overview ĪirPort debuted in 1999, as "one more thing" at Macworld New York, with Steve Jobs surfing the web on an iBook using wireless internet technology for the very first time in a public demo of an Apple laptop. The remaining inventory was sold off, and Apple later retailed routers from Linksys, Netgear, and Eero in Apple retail stores. In 2018, Apple discontinued the AirPort line. Apple's line of wireless routers consisted of the AirPort Base Station (later AirPort Extreme) the AirPort Time Capsule, a variant with a built-in hard disk for automated backups and the AirPort Express, a compact router. Wireless cards were discontinued in 2009 following the Mac transition to Intel processors, after all of Apple's Mac products had adopted built-in Wi-Fi. Īpple introduced the AirPort line in 1999. In Japan, the line of products was marketed under the brand AirMac due to previous registration by I-O Data. First three AirPort Base Station models, including the AirPort Extreme to the right.ĪirPort is a discontinued line of wireless routers and network cards developed by Apple Inc. My parents enrolled me in a couple of dance classes growing up but it wasn’t until I was 16 and in high school that I truly fell in love with dance and started training in hip hop and Latin fusion style dancing. I always enjoyed dancing growing up but in a casual setting at family gatherings or with my grandma who always encouraged me to dance. These environments granted me the freedom to explore and let my creativity flourish without constraints. It was in these two classes that I began to view painting and printmaking as central elements of my artistic expression. I learned the foundation of my current artistic approach during high school, where my art portfolio and advanced placement art classes played pivotal roles. However, those that have really followed along on this journey with me for the past 3 decades also know that I’m a saxophone player (mainly tenor, but I do play Alto, C-Melody, and Soprano). I’m much more widely known as a hip hop emcee/rapper/lyricist/song-writer, for my catalogue of works under the artist name “Sivion”. I started considering art more seriously, investing time into my work and falling in love with painting. That eventually changed thanks to my incredible art teacher. However, in high school, I often prioritized other subjects and thought I would pursue a career in another field. Like many artists, I have been creating since I could remember. I started out when I was 11 or 12 with skateboarding, taught me heaps when it came to camera work, and editing, I had a shitty little camera, it was called a “Flip Ultra HD Camera” If you search if you’ll laugh so hard haha, and editing in iMovie, so i really started out with video work, until I got in photographing my mates skateboarding, a few months later, which I found a lot more fun, probably because it was easier than taking video, and with editing photos you can really get into a flow, set some nice lighting, play some tunes, and just chill, whereas editing video makes me want to snap my laptop in half most of the time haha. Growing up, my mom was the family historian we still have huge storage bins full of family photos and portraits of almost every close and extended family member. While I consider writing to be my first love, photography has been a very interesting and important part of my artistic journey. I’m an all-around artist and forever a student of life and my crafts. Following through means investing in learning your craft, but we’ve heard from so many aspiring artists and creatives who feel unsure about where to start and so we’re incredibly grateful to the artists and creatives who’ve agreed to share their stories of how they learned their craft. Wanting to be an artist or creative is step one.
